Pastor

Bro. Russ is a native of Princeton, Kentucky. The father of two children, he is married to the love of his life, Karen, who he claims is the most kind-hearted person he knows. He pursued his preparation for ministry at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN. The longest serving pastor at First Southern, he loves working with a congregation that loves people and believes the Bible.

Historically, First Southern has been involved in planting several churches. Brother Russ hopes to build on that heritage by increasing engagement in global missions. Most simply, he seeks to preach and teach God’s word faithfully, share the love of God in Christ with all, love the people and to help lead the church to fulfill the mission God has given us.

Minister of Music & Administration

Bro. John joined the First Southern staff in March 2002. He is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University (BA Music Ed.), Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Church Music). He and his wife, Diana are blessed with 6 children, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 son-in-law, and 5 grandchildren.

Originally from Arkansas, John served churches in Arkansas and Tennessee before moving to Southern Indiana. His involvement in music ministry began with singing in the preschool, children and youth choirs at his home church in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He is grateful for the opportunity to serve God’s people at First Southern.

Of working at FSBC, she says, “I can’t think of a better place to be working than the house of the Lord. My family and friends are here, and everyone treats everyone like family. I grew up here and I know that I can count on and depend on those here in this church.”
